Antigone

Antigone: One of Sophocles' three remaining Theban plays, this classic tragedy takes place after Thebe's civil war, when brothers Eteocles and Polyneices, leading opposing armies, have killed each other. The new ruler of Thebes, Creon, decides to favor Eteocles and disgraces Polyneices by leaving his body un-purified and unburied on the battlefield. The brothers' sister Antigone decides to bury her brother despite Creon's edict and she is buried alive in a cave as punishment. At the foreboding warnings of Tiresias, a blind prophet, Creon attempts to remedy his past actions and save his family, but his repentance comes too late.
