Summary:  Charlie Gordon is 32 years old with an IQ of 68.  He is chosen as the first human subject for an experimental surgery to triple his intelligence, however, his now high intelligence brings emotional isolation, as he realizes his co-workers feared his changes and the scientists treat him like a lab specimen rather than a person.  Realizing the surgery's effects are temporary, Charlie frantically researches to find the flaw before his own mind deteriorates.
