Summary:  Gigi is a lively,  free-spirited young French girl being trained in formal etiquette and deportment lessons to prepare for a lucrative life as a companion to wealthy, aristocratic men.  Gigi's best friend and confidant, Gaston Lachaille, a tremendously wealthy, bored Parisian playboy frequently visits Gigi’s home to escape the superficial high-society drama and treats her like a younger sister.  As Gigi grows into a poised young lady, Gaston suddenly sees her differently and proposes making her his official mistress. Horrified by the transactional nature of the arrangement and realizing she truly loves him, Gigi rejects the offer, but when Gaston realizes his deep love for Gigi transcends societal rules, and he returns to ask for her hand in marriage instead.
