Setting: Venice, Italy, and the fictional kingdom of Barataria 

Summary: Marco and Giuseppe Palmieri, two gondolier brothers, discover that through a mix up, one of them is actually married to the heir to the throne of Barataria.  Because nobody knows which brother is the true king, Marco and Giuseppe must travel to Barataria and rule the kingdom together as equals until the nurse who caused the mix up can be found.
