Grease is a certified Broadway classic that is ingrained in American culture, and for good reason! Grease follows a group of working-class teenagers in 1959 at the fictional Rydell High School in Chicago, Illinois. Greaser, Danny Zuko, and new-in-town good girl, Sandy Dumbrowksi, attempt to rekindle their romance from the summer before senior year, while the rest of their friends navigate the struggles and complexities of high school, such as peer pressure, politics, love, and their own identities. Featuring music, lyrics, and book by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Grease features unforgettable songs such as “Summer Nights,” “We Go Together,” and “You’re the One that I Want.” By the time Grease concluded its original Broadway run from 1972 to 1980, it held the record for the longest run in Broadway history before being surpassed by A Chorus Line in 1983. Grease also spawned its classic 1978 film adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Due to the numerous revivals and changes that have been made to the musical since its inception, several versions of the show exist with different song placement and plot points, yet the core coming-of-age story remains the same.
