Summary: Upbeat teenager Tracy Turnblad auditions for The Corny Collins Show and wins a spot as a regular dancer.  Tracy becomes an overnight star, challenging the show's racist segregation policies alongside Black youth and her friends, while rivaling the reigning teen queen, Amber Von Tussle.  Tracy, her parents (Edna and Wilbur), and their allies successfully integrate the television network, promoting a powerful message of inclusion and self-love.
