Setting: Westerberg High School in Sherwood, Ohio

Summary:  Veronica Sawyer hates the cruel social order at Westerberg High but impresses and then gets kicked out of the "Heathers," a powerful clique at the school.  She meets and dates J.D., a dangerous and mysterious new transfer student, and together they murder some of the school's crueler students. Realizing J.D.'s ultimate plans to blow up the entire school during a gym/student rally, Veronica fakes her own death, confronts J.D., takes the bomb, and lets it detonate safely away from the student body, choosing to survive and reform the school's culture.
