Summary: Famous, acerbic New York radio personality and critic Sheridan Whiteside arrives to dine at the respectable home of factory owner Ernest Stanley. Before even entering, he slips on a patch of ice, injures his hip, and is forced to move in. Whiteside tyrannically commandeers the ground floor of the Stanley household, turning the living room into a chaotic hub for his eccentric radio broadcasts, business, and bizarre celebrity visitors. After a series of comedic catastrophes, Whiteside is finally forced to leave—only to slip on the ice again as he departs, prompting a humorous final twist.
