Summary: Solicitors track down the legitimate heir to the late Earl of Hareford and are shocked to find Bill Snibson, a cheeky Cockney costermonger (street seller) from Lambeth. Bill is brought to Hareford Hall to learn the manners, speech, and rules of the upper class. However, the aristocratic family—led by Maria, the Duchess of Dene—demands that he give up his low-born Cockney girlfriend, Sally Smith. Refusing to abandon Sally, Bill struggles between fitting into high society and staying true to his roots.
