Summary:  The four Smith daughters—Rose, Esther, Agnes, and Tootie—along with their parents and siblings, are thrilled that the World's Fair is coming to their hometown, but life is upended when Mr. Smith announces a promotion and a sudden decision to move the entire family to a new life in New York City, forcing them to leave behind their friends, budding romances, and familiar lifestyle right before the fair.  Heartbroken and distraught over losing their beloved home, the children rebel in sadness.  Moved by his family's deep sorrow, Mr. Smith realizes what truly matters and cancels the move, allowing them all to happily stay and attend the World's Fair.
