Summary: Nanki-Poo, the son of the Emperor (the Mikado), arrives in the town of Titipu disguised as a wandering minstrel. He is in love with Yum-Yum, a young ward of Ko-Ko. However, Yum-Yum is betrothed to Ko-Ko himself. A fierce noblewoman named Katisha also arrives, to claim Nanki-Poo as her own. Even more confusion occurs when the Mikado of Japan arrives, forcing deals to be made, secrets revealed, and some unexpected couplings.
