Summary:  The story centers on four aging sisters (the Gibbs/Bolton sisters—Cora, Ida, Arry, and Esther) and their long-suffering husbands.  Tension and domestic hilarity arise when Ida and Carl's chronically hesitant, 40-something son, Homer, finally brings home his fiancée, Myrtle, to meet the family after an engagement that has already lasted seven (or more) years, and underlying secrets and fears of aging bubble up to the surface, forcing everyone to question their choices before it is too late.
