Summary:  Sensible, witty older sister Ruth wants to be a professional writer, while pretty, charming younger sister Eileen hopes to become a star actress.  In pursuit of their dreams, they move into a cheap, flawed, basement flat in Greenwich Village owned by an eccentric landlord.  Eileen effortlessly attracts a stream of eccentric suitors, weirdos, and misguided job contacts, leaving pragmatic Ruth to constantly manage the chaos.
