Summary: The Chairman of the Music Hall Royale welcomes the audience and introduces the eccentric members of the acting troupe, who will enact Charles Dickens's unfinished murder mystery. Young, charming Edwin Drood is engaged to Rosa Bud. However, Edwin's shadowy, opium-addicted uncle, John Jasper, is obsessively in love with Rosa. Complications arise with the arrival of hot-tempered Neville Landless and his sister Helena from Ceylon, both of whom clash with Edwin. When Edwin Drood vanishes suddenly, evidence suggests he has been murdered. After the investigation unfolds, the audience votes to decide who among the colorful suspects is the killer, which two characters are paired as lovers, and who is revealed as the amateur detective in disguise.
