Summary:  Young orphan Oliver Twist runs away to London, where he meets the Artful Dodger, who introduces him to Fagin and his den of young pickpockets.  On his first outing, Oliver is falsely accused of stealing a handkerchief from the wealthy Mr. Brownlow while Dodger and Charley Bates actually commit the crime.  When a witness clears Oliver, Mr. Brownlow takes the sick boy into his care but fearing Oliver will betray them, Fagin and the brutal Bill Sikes have Nancy kidnap Oliver from the street to bring him back to the den.
