Setting: Greenwich Village, New York City

Summary: Sisters Ruth and Eileen arrive in New York from Columbus, Ohio, with big artistic ambitions.  They rent a cheap, sub-standard basement flat with an eccentric landlord, while Ruth tries to earn money by selling stories to magazine editors.  After a series of screwball mix-ups, brush-ins with local cops and career near-misses, both sisters find their footing in the city, realizing that despite the trials, New York is a wonderful town.
