Spirit Gum Liquid Adhesive by Mehron

Spirit Gum is an amber colored multipurpose cosmetic adhesive. It is essentially a synthetic form of pine sap. It can be used in many makeup settings such as adding rhinestones and glitter in glam makeup. For Stage, Cosplay, and F/X it is used for adhering latex prosthetics such as noses, scars, and bald caps. Spirit gum is also used to apply lace front wigs, beards, and moustaches. When used with crepe hair it will make a realistic custom beard and/or moustache. In F/X makeup Spirit gum will also help keep nose and scar wax on better. Some makeup artists have used it to adhere things like flower petals and slips of colored paper in their work. Use your imagination and see what happens. Spirit Gum will hold moderately heavy items.

Spirit gum is very easy to use. There is really only one rule to follow. You have to get the Spirit Gum tacky before sticking on your appliance. If you just paint it on and just stick something on it will just not work. It may stick for a bit but it will not last. To get the Spirit Gum tacky you have to tap it till it gets sticky. There are two ways to do this. Some people will just use their fingers. It works but it is messy. The other it to use a Latex Sponge wedge (Please note most latex sponges do not contain latex anymore but the name has not changed).

Spirit Gum has its own remover and it is a must. A good beard or prosthetic is an investment. Do not wreck it by just ripping it off. Also it is not good for your skin!

Soak a cotton ball or pad with the Spirit Gum Remover. Then dab it on an edge of your piece. Keep dabbing until an edge comes up and then keep going around the rest of the piece until it comes off. Spirit Gum Remover can be used to clean Spirit Gum residue buildup on the lace of hair appliances. Soak the lace with Spirit Gum Remover and then using a clean old toothbrush gently scrub the residue away.

Here are a few tips for using Spirit Gum. Remember as with all makeup applications start with clean dry skin.  Use Barrier Spray, it will help control oil and sweat which can cause your pieces to come unglued. If you are going out to a party or convention take your spirit gum and remover with you. If you do come unglued you can fix it, or if you decide you no longer want to wear a piece you can remove it. It is wise to put these in separate zippered bags in case they leak. Remember that when removing it is all about letting the Remover dissolve the Spirit Gum. Hard scrubbing will do nothing but irritate your skin.
