As a part of the celebration of our 100th Anniversary year, The Costumer sponsored a National Internship in Costuming to an outstanding student in The International Thespian Society (ITS), the nation's oldest and largest theatre-arts honorary society for high school students. This partnership is a first-of-its-kind internship for ITS.
The internship was awarded to Grace White, member of Troupe 6188 at Bothell High School, Bothell, WA. She was chosen for her academic achievement and original costume designs submitted with her application. She will be majoring in art at Brigham Young University commencing the fall 2017 semester.
Grace White arrived at The Costumer's Schenectady, NY Headquarters for a two-week internship on July 10, 2017. She worked closely with one of our designers on a production of The Music Man and helped out in a wide variety of projects for that show. She had an opportunity to get a glimpse of the many departments that come together to process a show. She did things such as helping to create a show order, cutting fabric for new garments, decorating Victorian hats, and "pulling" a show. She also assisted during one of The Costumer’s make-up camps for children at Proctors Theater in Schenectady, NY.
We thank ITS and Grace for celebrating our centennial year with us and for a wonderful experience. Good luck at BYU, Grace!!!
