Follies
Follies:
Music by Stephen Sondheim. Book by James Goldman. It’s 1970, at the Follies reunion in the Weisman Theatre, which is scheduled for demolition. Filled with colorful and poignant characters, the musical focuses on the couples Sally and Buddy, and Phyllis and Ben, who are two former Follies girls and their husbands. As they reminisce about their history, younger versions of themselves are seen. The couples relive the past and realize their present is a far cry from what they dreamed of. Dissatisfied with their marriages, they come to a crossroads where they must face each other and their future. With numbers that evoke vaudeville acts, this musical includes some of the most well-known Sondheim works, including “Broadway Baby,” “I’m Still Here,” and “Losing My Mind.”
