110 In the Shade
110 In the Shade: N. Richard Nash adapted his own play The Rainmaker with the help of lyricist Tom Jones and composer Harvey Schmidt. It is 1936 and Lizzie Curry is a spitfire spinster living with her father and brothers in Three Point, a small town in the American southwest. The musical opens when she returns home from a trip where she was to have found a husband, but to no avail. So, her family invites the lonely divorcée Sheriff File to the town picnic to hook him and Lizzie up. Both Lizzie and File try to reach out to each other, but can't seem to help getting at each others nerves and into this mess walks con man and romancer Starbuck Rainmaker, promising to bring rain to the drought-stricken region.
