Andersonville Trial

Andersonville Trial: Saul Levitt's 1959 play is based on the real life 1865 trial of Henry Wirz, commander of the Confederate Andersonville Prison. During the American Civil War over 13,000 Union prisoners of war died in this prison due to malnutrition and lack of medical care. The legal case against Commander Henry Wirz become a platform to address the internal moral code of soldiers following external orders.
