Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ Superstar: Andrew Lloyd Webber and Time Rice's controversial but popular rock musical follows the last seven days of Christ's life as seen through the eyes of his follower and betrayer Judas Iscariot. Jesus leads a compassionate movement and is being hailed by many as the Messiah. As one of his twelve apostles, Judas watches with growing insecurity as the movement takes on aspects of a personality cult. Many of the teachings of Jesus are twisted by his followers and Judas fears the movement has begun to undermine itself. With these misgivings, he meets with the Priests of Judaea and agrees, for 30 pieces of silver, to betray Jesus. Judas identifies Jesus at the Last Supper to the soldiers of Gethsemane. With the news of Jesus' capture, there are impending riots in the streets. Roman officer Pontius Pilate has had foreboding dreams and fearing to convict the young religious leader, sends the prisoner to Herod. Jesus' eventual crucifixion immediately follows Judas' suicide. This 1970's musical, still wildly popular with community and professional groups, features hit songs "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Everything's Alright" and "Superstar."
