Phantom of the Opera - Andrew Lloyd Webber
Phantom of the Opera - Andrew Lloyd Webber: Perhaps one of the best loved shows of our time, Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic musical, winner of both the 1986 Olivier and 1988 Tony awards for best musical, tells the story of a naïve young soprano, Christine Daaé, as she becomes entangled in the mysterious world of the Paris Opera House. It is 1881 and the Opera House hosts a menacing and brilliant phantom that terrorizes the performers and manipulates the new opera managers, Monsiuers André and Firmin. As a young member of the ballet corps, Christine catches the Phantom's attention and, playing on a childhood promise of her father, he introduces himself to her as the Angel of Music, training her voice and orchestrating her rise to stardom in his new opera, “Don Juan Triumphant.” With all the splendor and gilt of a grand opera as well as the dark and labyrinth-like underbelly of Paris, Christine becomes a pivot between the tortured world of the Phantom and the warm world of her childhood friend and now lover Raoul. Based on the novel by Gaston Leroux, with lyrics by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe.
