Steel Magnolias: Written by Robert Harling, Steel Magnolias is a comedy-drama about the bond between six women in the fictional Louisiana Parish of Chinquapin. The story takes place in Truvy’s beauty salon, where all the ladies who claim to be “anybody” come to get their hair done. The small cast of six features the outspoken and wise-cracking Truvy, her eager new assistant Annelle, the ill-tempered Ouiser, the eccentric millionaire Miss Clairee, the local social leader M’Lynn, and her daughter Shelby. The play shifts from comedy to tragedy seamlessly in the second act as Shelby makes the ultimate sacrifice. Steel Magnolias touches upon the themes of the fragility of life, and most importantly, the strength of friendship and love.
