Teahouse of the August Moon: Written by John Patrick, adapted from the novel by Vern Sneider. Following World War II, American army officer Captain Fisby is tasked with Americanizing a tiny Okinawa island town called Tobiki. The young officer is charmed by the local people and learns the importance of preserving their culture. He helps them use materials sent to build a school to construct a teahouse instead. Fisby and the villagers then start selling potato brandy to neighboring Navy Officers’ clubs as well, but catastrophe lurks when the Colonel has chosen the moment of teahouse’s gala opening as inspection day.
