The Lark

The Lark: by Jean Anouilh. Joan of Arc faces her trial with an audience of listeners whose responses range from indifferent to condemning. The Earl of Warwick urges the jury to burn her at the stake, but Cauchon, the French bishop, demands that before the verdict, Joan must recount her story. She reenacts each moment, from her first visions to leading the French army. The result is a play that brings the legend of Saint Joan into our present.
